Metro East Disaster Relief NFP
A charitable organization being built to help Metro East residents recover from disasters and emergencies with direct, practical support when they need it most.
Current Status: Getting Organized
Metro East Disaster Relief NFP has received approval from the Illinois Secretary of State as a not-for-profit corporation. We are still completing the remaining organizational, charitable-registration, and tax-exemption steps needed before operations can fully begin.
Cannot Accept Donations Yet
MEDR is not currently able to accept donations. Donation capability will be added once the remaining required organizational and tax-exemption steps are completed.
Cannot Provide Assistance Yet
Assistance programs are not open at this time. Programs will launch after the organization completes setup and is operationally ready to serve the community.
What MEDR Will Do
Metro East Disaster Relief NFP is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation formed to provide charitable disaster relief, emergency humanitarian assistance, preparedness, recovery, and related support to individuals and communities affected by disasters and emergencies.
The organization is being created to fill the gap between the moment a disaster strikes and the point when larger, long-term relief organizations are able to respond. The goal is to offer direct, practical help to Metro East residents during those first difficult hours and days.
Primary Service Area — 14 Illinois Counties
MEDR is focused on the same southwest Illinois communities Metro East Weather already serves:
Planned Assistance
Once fully operational, MEDR plans to provide assistance such as:
- Hotel stays immediately following disasters such as tornadoes, fires, or floods
- Transportation so affected people can stay with family or friends
- Grocery replacement following long-duration power outages
- Food, water, clothing, comfort items, and other appropriate disaster-related assistance
Specific programs, eligibility, and availability will be announced once MEDR is operationally ready.
